Cricket Investigation

Question:Do crickets prefer smooth or rough environments.

Hypothesis:If I let crickets choose between a rough and smooth environment, then they will choose the rough one, because they live in rough environments outside and are use to it.

Backround Research: Crickets need warmth, food, water, and a safe environment to lay their eggs.

We set the tank up by putting a piece of sand paper in the inside of it with the cricket. We then observed where the cricket would be  the most, the smooth area or the rough area.

TWIS #6

This week in science,we started working with crickets. We started by going online and researching them.We researched what they liked and needed. After researching what they need,we started observing them.We made our testable question Do crickets prefer wet areas rather than dry ones. The crickets that my group and I had spent most of their time on the dry areas of the tank. After working with the crickets we started another group experiment using jelly beans. We used two different dichotomous keys to help us classify jelly beans.A flow-chart style key and a list style key.

My goup and I learned that the flow-chart style key is much easier and simpler than the list style one is.We learned that the flow-chart style is easier because it is more visual.

TWIS #5

This week in science,my class and I finished our rocket investigations. We also started observing animal behaviors. This week in science I finished the conclusion to my rocket investigation. After finishing our rocket investigation we began a new unit. We began the new unit by watching videos of animals and observing their actions. After watching the videos we began observing the behavior of crickets.

We learned that different animals behave different ways. Some animals may be more aggressive than others are. We also learned that different animals communicate in different ways.
