TWIS 15

This week in science I participated in the marshmallow challenge. My team and I built the highest tower. I had a lot of fun working in a group. Seeing as how it was our 3rd time doing this project, my group and worked very well together. This time, unlike the first, we were familiar with one another which allowed us to communicate much better. This week I also recorded my Science and I video. In my Science and I video I am introducing myself to my future tenth grade teacher. The video will allow my next year teacher to get to know me before the school year even starts.

This week I learned that it is much easier for me to work in groups than it was before. Getting
to know my classmates has made them easier to work with. I now believe that working in groups is much easier rather than working alone. When your in a group you have different opinions and ideas to work with aside from your own. This week in science I learned that I have grown a lot from the beginning of the school year until now.

TWIS#12

This week in science my class and I began to do old regents quizzes to help us with science. We also learned about biotic and abiotic factors. We were also tested on all of our packets and we also began to start feeding ur fruit flies. We ended the week with doing our spider observation logs and sadly,we said good bye to one of our science teachers, Jamie.

This week in science I learned that spiders eat fruit flies. I also observed my spider eat and learned how they do it. I learned the definitions of biotic and abiotic. I learned some new things bout my spider as well. My spider never touched the ground. I learned that it always stays at the top of the cage inside of its web.

TWIS#11

This week in science my class and I defined words around the room and learned that we were going to be studying ecosystems for the new quarter. This week I also got a new seat and began to start the project with my new group.First we planned out what our ecosystem woud be needing. We made a list of all the things we thought would make a perfect edition to our ecosystem. After sorting everything out,we began to draw a sketch of what our ecostystem would look like. The next day my class went to the park to start gathering all of our materials such as grass, leaves, bugs/worms, etc.

This week I learned about cellar spiders(the animal that would be living inside of my ecosystem).I learned what the spider looks like and how it works/functions.Researching the cellar spider made me aware of all the things my tank(ecosystem) would need to have in order to help my spider stay alive.I also learned everything that an ecosystem consist of and needs to have.

TMIS #10

For the past few weeks in science class, my class and I have been working on human impact on the environment. I chose to be in the energy group. One of the first things my group and I did was measure how much energy an electronic device uses per hour(a watt). We measured devices such as a hair dryer, an alarm clock, a curling iron, etc. It was the job of my group to find out how humans use and waste energy. My entire class and I went into the Seward Park neighborhood and interviewed it's residents and other people who would take the time to speak with us. My partner and I interviewed 7 people. Of the seven interviewed... we found that most of them were very strict when it came to conserving energy inside of their homes. We also learned that as people, we use tons of energy a day. My group and I also designed a survey for us to participate in every day. Each day we were supposed to take the survey. The survey was created to measure the amount of energy we as a group use.The questions the survey asked allowed us to see how much energy we used, how we used it,and if it entertained us at all.Later in the project one of my group members and I felt our group was too large. We decided to branch out from the others and finish the remainder of the project on our own.

After the surveying process was over... we started working on the ad campaigns for our groups. Some people from the Human Impacts Institute came to speak to us. They explained to us what would make a good ad campaign. As they were speaking my group along with the others (Water, Waste, and Transportation) made list of how humans affect the topic we are studying. A little later it was time to actually start our campaigns. First we created slogans. My partner and I agreed on the slogan "Watts the Problem". After our slogan was created, it was time for us to start the actual designing process. After choosing from several different ads we came up with,we finally chose one that we both thought fit both the slogan and campaign very well. .Now that our ad campaign/poster is finished... my partner and I are waiting to put our design on a t-shirt. This past month in science was a very interesting time. I myself learned how to better conserve energy and be more aware of how wasting it will affect me in the future. This month I learned alot. I learned how I and others use energy. I learned how I waste energy and some better ways to conserve it. I was also able to learn how other people feel about the use of energy in their own communities. This past month in science taught me the importance of energy. This past month taught me to be active and to help the cause. It taught me to be an energry saver.

TWIS #8

Side View
Ventral Interior View

This week in science my partner, Matthew, and I dissected a cricket. Before dissecting,we drew pictures of the cricket from both a dorsal and ventral view. The first cut made on the cricket was from it's head to it's posterior. After, we cut off the proximal part of the cricket's leg. After making all of our cuts we then opened up the cricket.Once the cricket was open we examined it's insides.

This week in science I learned about crickets and crawfish.I learned about both of these animals environments and what they need to live.I also learned some of the cricket's and crawfish's similar features.I  learned what the inside of both of these animals looks like and how their body parts move and function.

This Week In Science #7

This week in science,my group and I did the Zoology of the future project. In this project my group partners(Kaysha, Maria, and Matthew) and I did a power point on the aquatic biome. After choosing our biome,we each chose  a sea creature of our own to do and individual slide about. After choosing the animal, we had to write about how it would adapt to life 1000,000 years in the future, and also draw a picture of its new adaptions, in a completely different biome than where it started. After our power point was complete we added our voices to it.We each spoke about the slide we had created on the power point.

I learned alot this week in science.I learned a lot of new animal facts thanks to my power point and those of my other classmates.I also learned how to add voices on to power points. This week in science also helped me learn how to work better in a group by allowing me to listen to other peoples ideas and learn from what they had to say.
